Message from Shushu

Hello! My name is Shushu Korenaga, a third-year student majoring in African Area Studies. I will be studying at Stellenbosch University in South Africa for one year as an exchange student in 2024. I have been interested in Africa since high school and have longed to study in South Africa, a country rich in diverse cultures. I am thrilled to have this opportunity. Stellenbosch, where the university is located, is a town rich in nature and relatively safe. Surrounded by beautiful landscapes and people from diverse backgrounds, I hope to study “coexistence,” which I am currently interested in. This semester, I plan to take three courses: Pop Culture in South Africa, Sustainable Agriculture, and Social Issues in South Africa. I intend to cherish each day and learn as much as I can from both my classes and daily life. Lastly, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported me in making this study abroad opportunity possible. I extend my thanks to everyone at IAfP, the teachers and staff at both universities, and all those who have supported me.

Message from Hana

Hello, my name is Hana Matsumoto and I am a student of African Area Studies, Department of International and Area Studies at TUFS. I’m studying at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, from July 2024 to June 2025. In this semester from this July, I will take several courses such as Sociology, Political Science, and Xhosa language, which is one of the languages spoken in South Africa. I would like to try to communicate with South African people through learning their languages, as well as I’m going to deepen my knowledge about African politics and diplomacy which I’m interested in. What I’m currently excited about is that Stellenbosch Choir, which is famous in the world, will hold a concert at the beginning of next August. Since I have sung in a choir for almost 10 years in Japan, if possible, I desire to join the choir and connect with more people through chorus. Finally, I greatly appreciate the support from everyone who has been involved in my program. Thank you. We took a picture with Julia, who came to TUFS as an exchange student. Thank you for generous support, Julia!
