{"id":595,"date":"2020-02-03T13:37:32","date_gmt":"2020-02-03T04:37:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tufs-tenkai2rus-en.com\/?page_id=595"},"modified":"2020-02-03T13:37:32","modified_gmt":"2020-02-03T04:37:32","slug":"volunteer-children-library-spb","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.tufs.ac.jp\/russia-en\/volunteer-children-library-spb\/","title":{"rendered":"Volunteer Japanese Teaching at a Children\u2019s Library"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"color:#000000\">Ms. Oyogawa Yui (\u53ca\u5ddd\u7d50), a junior in the TUFS School of Language and Culture Studies, participated in volunteer activities involving teaching Japanese to children, while she was an exchange student at Saint Petersburg State University.\u00a0 The activities were held at Children\u2019s Library No. 4 in the district of Krasnogvardeysky.\u00a0 Below is Ms. Oyogawa\u2019s report.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"color:#000000\"><strong>Volunteer Activity Dates<br \/>\n<\/strong>May 10 to June 26, 2018; sessions were held once per week for a total of 8 session<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#000000\"> <strong>Motivation<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#000000\"> The opportunity to participate in this volunteer activity came when an acquaintance, whom I knew through working together on an event about Japanese culture held for a Japanese restaurant, informed me of it.\u00a0 Interest in Japan is growing among Russians, as evidenced by the number of parents who had an interest exposing their children to Japanese education.\u00a0 Moreover, while I initially came to Russia with the simple purpose of improving my Russian, I was very happy to have the opportunity to participate actively in the spreading of Japanese culture in a format that appealed to Russian people\u2019s interests and expectations.\u00a0 It was really a wonderful opportunity that I feel lucky to have been a part of.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#000000\"> <strong>The activity<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-597 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.tufs.ac.jp\/russia-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/02\/e58699e79c9f-2018-10-23-12-16-44-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\u5199\u771f-2018-10-23-12-16-44-1 (1)\" width=\"300\" height=\"182\" \/><\/strong>Once a week, I taught a class utilizing teaching materials I created myself. \u00a0Although I focused primarily on conversation and simple writing practice, given that my students were between 4 and 6 years old, I put a lot of effort into creating materials that could hold their interest for the length of the 45-minute class.\u00a0 For example, instead of having them practice hiragana just by filling in a text, I\u2019d have the students watch an <em>A I U E O<\/em> clip so that they were visually and audibly stimulated, and so that the shapes of the letters would stay locked in their memories.\u00a0 In the last class, I had the students recite a self-introduction in front of their parents, so that the parents could see how much their children had learned.<\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color:#000000\"> What I learned through doing this activity<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#000000\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-598 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.tufs.ac.jp\/russia-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/02\/e58699e79c9f-2018-10-23-12-09-13-1.jpg\" alt=\"\u5199\u771f-2018-10-23-12-09-13 (1).jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" \/>Since I have always loved children, it was no trouble to have fun teaching this class;
