“LGBT” Politics: Asian Perspectives

I may have missed a proper opportunity to launch and introduce the book due to the hectic days during the semester.

Several months ago, we published a book titled “LGBT” Politics: Asian Perspectives, from the Trans Pacific Press (pls note the brackets). The book is an academic fruit our team had grown for 10 years with a lot of labor of love.

Initially, due to the topic’s sensitive nature, I hesitated to participate in this research project and could not even imagine leading it. However, convinced and encouraged by my respected collaborators, I somehow achieved it.

Learning about and from marginalized minorities was a series of enlightenments, which significantly impacted me. I am now more confident in teaching and writing about gender and sexuality issues. I have learned how my previous ideas and behaviors were wrong over such sensitive issues. Reflecting this, I am trying to correct and “update” myself.

I feel like I am now a “trans-Wataru,” someone different from my previous self. I hope you could get a copy to feel it.

Thank you so much to all the friends who helped the project come true.
