Speaking Program
Session times:
(1) 11:00-11:40 (2) 11:50-12:30 (3) 12:40-13:20

▶ Regular Sessions
Participants talk about a given weekly topic in a relaxed and casual atmosphere. This session is suitable for students who would like to enhance their fluency and conversational English.
▶ Academic Sessions
Participants discuss academic topics. This session is useful for students who wish to study abroad. Prior to the session, participants are required to read through a short text on a given topic and be prepared to discuss it with a group.
▶ Business Sessions
Participants practice business English skills such as how to speak in presentations and meetings. Prior to the session, participants are required to read through a short text on the topic and be prepared to discuss it with the group.
▶ Practical Sessions
Participants learn skills which will benefit their university lives through practical sessions. The topics covered in practical sessions range from casual aspects such as making friends, throwing parties, to academic skills such as writing e-mails to professors and scheduling meeting with teachers.
ELC Seminar
Participants listen to a short lecture about a topic and have a discussion to understand the topic better. ELC seminars are ideal for those who want to prepare for lectures in English.

English Library
Borrowing period is 14 days. You can check out up to five books at a time.
Books can be checked out for an extended borrowing period during long school breaks when ELC is closed.
ELC Library catalogue is available here.
ELC subscriptions include;
English Journal, CNN English Express, The Japan Times, The New York Times, etc.
eBooks are available from 2015. Over 500 titles are accessible through PCs and tablets connected to TUFS’ LAN system. They can also be viewed and searched through TUFS’ library data base.
Writing Program
▶ Writing Support Desk (Online)
We also have the Writing Support Desk, in which writing advisors provide academic advice on students’ English writing. The Writing Support Desk is open on Wednesday and Friday (11:00-16:40). Reservation should be made in advance. For more details, please check Writing Support Desk course on Moodle.
